Koh Phangan takes another life
We get far more than our fair share of strange and unsolved mystery deaths on Koh Phangan, although it is not surprising once you understand the way the place works and how the major families that run the island style themselves after old US gangsters.
But this latest death is a bit stranger than most. Firstly it involved a farang and not a Thai, although odd farang deaths are not unknown they are much less frequent. Secondly it looks like a suicide. But the odd thing is the place and form this suicide took. The person hung themselves in a public place, not an easy thing to do I am sure, it was also a young person with money in their pocket and everything associated with living a normal life. I might expect one of the burned out booze heads we see on the island to turn up dead but a young tourist hanging themselves in a public place just seems weird to me.
I guess we will never know the true story, but one wonders.
