Ignorance in business is not bliss
I have been following an online discussion closely this last week between a guy on Koh Samui who want’s to open and Internet cafe and the people who are pulling his idea apart.
The chap asked two questions of the local inhabitants, firstly he asked where he could buy the computers and then he asked about how he could get a decent ADLS connection.
Considering these are the two main areas of concern for an Internet cafe it doesn’t seem to me like he has performed an awful lot of due diligence upon this new, planned business venture. This is entirely indicative of so many people who come here with a pocket full of cash after selling their property back home. They jump in, feet first with seldom a thought about how to run their new business. I ask you, how can a brick layer or postman suddenly change to running an export business or travel booking company overnight? It’s just not possible, running a business requires experience, training and expertise, opening a new business venture in a foreign land without a proven track record of an entrepreneurial nature back home is just a recipe for disaster.
