Dirty power
I think my workhorse desktop PC is about to die on me, it has taken to shutting itself off for no reason, sometimes it will not boot again, it will power up but will not initialise the monitor.
It’s definitely not an overheating problem and I have had the case apart to reseat the CPU and RAM, I have also re-connected all internal cables to make sure nothing was loose. I have cleaned all the fans and ventilation duct and reseated the graphics adapter and it still shows the same problem.
I have a suspicion that it is something to do with the power here on the island, it cycles on and off several times a day sometimes, even with a UPS my system still powers down sometimes because the UPS has been drained by the previous power outages.
I would like to try a new PSU but there is nowhere to buy a decent 600W PSU here on Koh Phangan, I would need to take the boat across to Koh Samui and that’s getting expensive just to try a replacement component that could or could not be the cause of the problem.
I don’t think I can use the PSU from my old PC to test it either as it is part of the shoebox size case I purchased to refit it into before I sent it over here from the UK. I have noticed things are slightly better today though and the power has not cycled at all, it may be coincidence but then again maybe not.
