CDMA – It works
I live on a very small island in the Gulf of Thailand. The options for internet access are pretty slim. You can use a modem and a phone line, you can get satellite, if you are really lucky you can get ADSL, you can use GPRS and you can use EDGE.
I have tried all of these, they are all very very bad, even the ADSL. So today I had a guy come to my house to demo a radio handset station. It’s basically a radio phone with a built in modem that connects to the CDMA network here.
And it works, it’s not fast, similar to a channel bonded 128k ISDN line, but the great thing is that it’s constant, no fluctuations. Amazing to think I’m happy to have a 128k connection after being spoiled in the UK using cable that is 100 times faster.
