I smell blood

Bangkok, Koh Phangan, Surin, Thailand, Travel August 29th, 2008

People’s Alliance for Democracy protestors blockading airports at Krabi, Phuket and Hat Yai, closing roads, stopping trains, fresh produce become scarce in Bangkok, and hour after hour of Thai news discussing nothing else on TV.

Shocking pictures of stockpiles of Kraton (not sure how you spell it, basically a plant that gives a high similar to amphetamines), guns and ammo confiscated by the police, and the army sitting cooling their heals.

It’s only a matter of time before the government decides it is going to have to lose face over this, and order in the troops. Last time the army hit the streets in the name of politics they pulled off a bloodless coup, I can’t see them resolving this current mess without pulling the trigger.

We were planning a three week vacation, we have cancelled these plans now, we don’t want to risk getting caught up in anything on our travels.

Time for a holiday

Leon BreakfastI’ve begun looking around for a new place to live, mainly because I feel I am being ripped off by the owners of the apartment I am currently staying in. The charge for electricity is 6 Baht per unit, and I know for a fact that they are paying around 4 Baht a unit, so they are basically stealing 2 Baht a unit from me. It’s not going well though, very few decent options here.

Anyway, I’ve been working hard lately, so we are going to take a holiday next month and go back to Koh Phangan and visit some friends. If I haven’t found a decent place to live by the time we are due to leave the island, I might think about moving back there, although I’m not sure Nuth would be pleased about this.

Leon is growing at an alarming rate, and he is turning in to quite a character, above is a picture of him eating his breakfast, and giving me a nasty look because I keep trying to steal one of his eggs.

This is for my mother, who is currently at my step sisters place, waiting for me to upload this video, so Hello Mum!

This video of Leon was taken when he was a couple of months old, just after bath time, at our old place on Koh Phangan.

Finally an update

Home Life, Koh Phangan, Personal, Surin, Thailand, Travel May 12th, 2008

It’s been ages since I updated this blog, and a lot has happened since I last did. Firstly Nuth, Leon and myself undertook a 3,500km journey around Thailand on our sarleng, for those who don’t know what a sarleng is, here is a picture.

Sarleng

We visited many places in Thailand and I will write several blog posts about the trip over the coming week.

The second big thing to happen since my last update, is that we have moved away from Koh Phangan. We now live in Surin, which is a town in the Isaan province of Thailand. We did this for a few reasons, but mostly because we both realised that Koh Phangan has very little in common with Thailand, it’s a westerners playground.

So apart from these two things, life is pretty much the same as before, Leon is growing at an alarming rate and turning into quite a character!
